Sara Jane Demy, Founder & CEO

Sara Demy established Demy-Colton in 2008 to develop high-value added business development and investor conferences for the life sciences industry as well as helping launch or reposition existing events.

Prior to launching Demy-Colton, Sara was Vice President, Business Development & Investor Relations and head of the New York Office for the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). In that capacity, she was responsible for building a portfolio of dynamic and cutting-edge programs designed to help biotech companies raise capital and form strategic partnerships. Programs and events launched and developed during Sara’s tenure with BIO included the BIO CEO & Investor Conference, BIO Investor Forum, BIO’s regional venture conferences, CEO boot-camps, the Business Forum at BIO’s Annual Meeting, BioEurope, BioEurope Spring, BIO Asia and presentation workshops. Sara is also responsible for developing and advancing “partnering” as an important business development tool that is now widely used in the life sciences industry to further their business objectives.

Prior to joining BIO, Sara was the Director of International Investment for the State of New York where she focused on attracting investment in high tech sectors, including biotechnology. During her tenure with the State of New York, Sara developed and led multiple investment missions to western Europe. She organized, invited delegates and hosted tours to introduce international CEOs to New York’s high tech infrastructure. She brought together federal, state and local officials to execute key projects. She also guided international companies through the process of establishing their operations in New York including speaking for the companies at community hearings, securing financing and navigating the approval process. Sara is a graduate of Albany University.

Lila Taylor, Chief Business Officer

Lila joined Demy-Colton as Chief Business Officer in February 2015. Lila has an integral role in shaping and expanding existing Demy-Colton conferences and products as well as creating new events and products. From December 2009 to January 2015, she served as Director of Alliance Management at KineMed, Inc., a biotechnology company specializing in clinical proteomic biomarkers, where she shaped alliances and partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotech strategic partners.

Previous to KineMed, Lila served as the Head of the Presenter Selection Committee and Client Manager at Technology Vision Group LLC, a producer of international biotechnology business development and investment conferences. Between February 2003 and November 2009 while at Technology Vision Group, Lila worked with biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, industry stakeholders and venture capitalists to shape innovative conferences world-wide, and to seek out the most innovative early-stage biotech companies to present at their events. Lila holds a Master of Science Degree in Geology from the University of New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology.

Lawrence Joseph, Manager, Client Relations and Operations

Lawrence joined Demy-Colton in 2001 and is responsible for managing Client Relations and Operations. Lawrence is well-versed in providing conference participants with service that is personable, proficient and professional. At Demy-Colton, he has taken on increasing responsibility for conference operations and execution including communications with presenters, scheduling of presentations, onsite presentation management and deployment of Networking2™, Demy-Colton’s partnering system. 

Prior to joining Demy-Colton, Lawrence spent more than ten years in the hospitality industry. He holds a diploma as a medical language specialist and is a musical theatre preforming artist in New York City and regional theatre. He studied accounting and theatre at the University of Houston.

Ashley Bauer, Coordinator, Research

Ashley joined Demy-Colton in 2014. She has extensive experience supporting biopharmaceutical business development conferences while on staff at BioEurope, BioEurope Spring and at Biotech Showcase. Ashley is a recent law graduate of the University of Cadiz, Spain. She recently relocated to the United States with her husband. 

Linda Burke, Manager, Special Projects & Sponsorship

Linda Burke has assisted Demy-Colton with its conferences since 2011. She joined Demy-Colton in February 2015 to provide administrative support to Sara Jane Demy and Lila Taylor. Linda has experience in the healthcare industry, including weight management and healthcare management and the financial services industry. She earned her MPA from Baruch College and her BA in Sociology from Hunter College.


Cassie Arnold, Founder, KMA & Company

Cassie provides marketing and content support for Demy-Colton. She is a writer and content consultant who specializes in the business and financial issues facing the life sciences industry.

She formed KMA & Company in 2007 after nearly 20 years of working in a variety of marketing communications leadership roles in two of the world’s largest professional services firms, much of that time focused on the life sciences industry.

She has extensive experience developing thought leadership projects as well as significant social media, client and investor events and media relations experience. She is based in the Silicon Valley and received her BA in Humanities and Political Science from Scripps College, Claremont, CA.

Betsy Bascom, MBA, Founder and CEO, Global Connectworks, Ltd

Betsy has been working with Demy-Colton since 2011 and is responsible for management of the conference Advisory Boards and Speakers and program support. She is the Founder and CEO of Global Connectworks Ltd., a consulting company, supporting international life science companies in cross border corporate development, financing and conference participation.

Betsy was a key driver in the growth of BIOTECanada, the nation’s leading professional association representing key players within the biotech sector. Prior to joining BIOTECanada, Betsy led the Product Development for Umbra Limited, an innovative consumer products company known for its creative house wares. Her skills were previously honed in conference and event management and strategic planning where she led client projects and managed numerous high level professional events from concept through to successful implementation. Betsy’s extensive conference planning experience was focused both locally and internationally.

Betsy’s industry experience is further supported by her MBA and her volunteer experience on a number of corporate and not-for-profit Boards.
